The incumbent serves the Athletic Department as the Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Finance and will work closely with and report to the Senior Associate Athletic Director, Finance and Strategy, to manage the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Department Business Office. In this role, the employee will directly supervise four full-time staff members and maintain daily oversight of the Athletic Department's financial reporting, budgeting, accounts payable, and procurement functions. This individual will also review/approve select expenditure documents (i.e., Concur expense reports, PantherExpress requisitions, etc.) and maintain/support an environment that emphasizes and prioritizes adherence to a strong internal control framework. Specifically, the Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Finance will work in conjunction with the Senior Associate Athletic Director, Finance and Strategy to ensure that the Athletic Department's financial reporting requirements and name, image, and likeness (NIL) obligations are met. The employee will oversee the completion of mandated and ad hoc financial reports/analyses (i.e., Federal EADA Report and NCAA AUP Report) as well as the timely and accurate issuance of student-athlete name, image, and likeness (NIL) distributions. Since this position is responsible for overseeing the financial reporting process, the incumbent will serve as the primary liaison to the Athletic Department's internal and external auditors on most business-related matters. Additionally, the Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Finance will be charged with the development of the Athletic Department's annual budget, which is in excess of $160 million. In doing so, the employee will work with each sport and support unit to review needs and assess priorities based on available funding. Throughout the year, the incumbent will track the Athletic Department's budgetary performance by regularly monitoring the existing budget dashboard, preparing monthly budget vs. actual status updates, and formulating year-end projections that can be utilized for decision-making and planning purposes.
Job Summary
Oversees financial and budgetary operations and ensures compliance of all activities with all policies, procedures, and regulations. Prepares and reconciles budgets, allocates funds, and oversees the budget modification process and audit scheduling. Establishes goals, implementation strategies, and financial systems.
Essential Functions
The employee will be required to work in conjunction with the Senior Associate Athletic Director, Finance and Strategy to complete mandated and ad hoc Athletic Department financial reports. Examples of required reports include the Federal EADA Report, NCAA/AUP Report, NCAA Report on Uses, and Private Business Use Questionnaire. In addition, the Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Finance will be required to prepare a variety of other reports and analyses that may be requested by management. When completing these reports, the employee will be responsible for aggregating and accurately presenting financial information in accordance with established standards and in a manner that addresses the needs/requirements of the end-user(s).The incumbent will be responsible for the preparation of the department's annual budget, which is in excess of $160 million. This will require the employee to work with each sport and support unit to review needs and assess priorities based on available funding. The budget process will involve an extensive review of the previous year's financial results as well as consideration of university/department-wide goals. Throughout the year, the incumbent will monitor how actual revenues and expenses compare with what was budgeted. If actual revenues or expenses deviate from budgeted amounts, the Assistant Athletic
Director for Business and Finance will investigate the variances and work with the Senior Associate Athletic Director, Finance and Strategy to determine appropriate follow-up action. The employee will also prepare monthly budget vs. actual status updates and year-end projections that can be utilized by management for decision-making and planning purposes. The Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Finance will be responsible for directly supervising four full-time employees and will assist the Senior Associate Athletic Director, Finance and Strategy with the daily management and operation of the Business Office. This individual will review/approve select expenditure documents (i.e., Concur expense reports, PantherExpress requisitions, journal entries, etc.), administer/manage the issuance of student-athlete name, image, and likeness (NIL) distributions, and maintain/support an environment that emphasizes and prioritizes adherence to a strong internal control framework. The incumbent will also work with the Senior Associate Athletic Director, Finance and Strategy on special projects and other initiatives that impact Business Office and department operations. The Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Finance will serve as the primary liaison to the University's internal and external auditors on most business-related matters. The employee will prepare and supply the documentation requested as part of these engagements and act as the daily contact for any associated financial inquiries. While doing so, the individual must exercise professional judgment to determine when it is appropriate and necessary to involve others within the Athletic Department and/or University to respond to audit-related subject matter.

The position is mostly sedentary in nature; however, the individual needs to be able to attend meetings on different parts of campus.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification: A master's degree is preferred, with a focus on accounting, business, and/or finance strongly preferred. At least 5 years of related experience in business and/or intercollegiate athletics as well as proficiency in Microsoft Excel required. In addition, it is preferred that the candidate have familiarity with project management tools and data visualization tools. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be accepted as determined by the University.
