| Hourly Wage: | $58,800-$88,200 Annually (hiring range: $58,800-$73,500 - Depending on Experience) |
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Guest Experience Manager, this position oversees and coordinates Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD) adult/youth sports, and athletic activities. Including staff oversight, training, program development, and onsite supervision. The Recreation Supervisor – Athletics develops programs that provide safe, effective opportunities for sport and promote a healthy lifestyle for community residents.
Key Responsibilities
Program Operations & Service Delivery
- Collaborate across departments to provide excellent services and experiences to our patrons.
- Plan, direct, operate, and regularly evaluate athletics programs including leagues, tournaments, sporting events, and instructional programs.
- Monitor registration and attendance; assess feasibility and public interest; cancel programs as necessary.
- Develop new, innovative programs and improve upon existing program methods. Identify current trends and determine opportunities in our district.
- Coordinate with district facilities, divisions, and departments to meet recreation goals.
- Maintain a strong focus on internal and external guest/customer service.
- Prepare written staff instructions and/or lesson plans as needed.
- Be prepared to adjust to new facilities and programs as they come online with future development of parks and facilities.
Communicate internally and externally; program schedules, operations and changes.
- Staff and Volunteer Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise seasonal and full-time staff, including athletic coordinator(s), instructors, coaches, and referees.
- Recruit, select, hire, train, develop, discipline, and dismiss staff as necessary.
- Schedule, attend, and facilitate staff meetings; conduct one-on-one meetings as needed.
- Volunteer leadership – recruit, train and support volunteer coaches and officials.
- Delegate tasks and assign work to achieve defined goals and priorities.
- Review and approve entries in the staff timekeeping system.
Budget, Purchasing & Reporting
- Prepare the annual budget for athletics department and manage programs/events to meet projections.
- Maintain accountability for revenues and expenses related to athletics programs.
- Forecast revenue and expenses; compare prior and expected performance to support budget planning.
- Purchase and evaluate equipment necessary for athletics programming.
- Prepare and maintain statistical/tabular reports and records related to athletics operations.
Facilities, Scheduling & Risk Management
- Manage scheduling and event operations for athletic events and programs.
- Monitor daily facility use to ensure compliance with policies and procedures; coordinate facility schedules equitably.
- Implement risk management plans to support a safe environment for staff and visitors.
- Evaluate and report on proposed athletic facilities.
Partnerships, Marketing & Community Relations
- Build and maintain relationships with sports associations and school districts; interface with community organizations and schools to promote and develop programs.
- Advertise, promote, and coordinate marketing for sports/athletics programs, including website, email promotion, and community engagement.
- Represent EPRD through presentations and public speaking to organizations and stakeholders related to athletics programs.
Policy & Compliance
- Maintain working knowledge of EPRD policies and procedures; implement them consistently and in a timely manner.
- Maintain knowledge of sporting event rules and regulations relevant to assigned programs.
- Coordinate contractor support for program delivery in alignment with district needs and applicable purchasing/procurement policies.

- Proficiency with common workplace technology (email, documents, spreadsheets) and maintaining/using district web tools.
Knowledge
- Modern principles, practices, rules, regulations, and equipment used in athletics programming.
- Applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards.
- Budgeting practices, methods, and procedures; familiarity with park and recreation amenities/facilities.
- Familiarity with CO State Child Program Licensing requirements.
Abilities
- Plan, direct, supervise, and evaluate programs and operational effectiveness.
- Communicate effectively (written and verbal) to varied audiences.
- Analyze data, prepare clear reports, establish priorities, and coordinate/assign/evaluate staff work.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, civic/community groups, and the public.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field.
- Strong working knowledge of computer systems and software; proficiency with Microsoft Office, recreation registration systems (ActiveNet), point of sale, E-Pact and similar tools.
- Acute understanding of recreational sporting event rules and regulations.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Four (4) years of experience in recreation, physical education, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience in programming and/or management.
Preferred Qualifications
- CDL preferred or within 90 days of starting.
- Certified Youth Sports Administration (CYSA) Preferred.
