- Fitness Coordinator
Description
The primary role of the Lifestyle and Fitness Coordinator is to motivate and support residents across all levels of living in achieving their fitness and wellness goals. This position promotes healthy living by guiding residents in developing and maintaining positive physical activity habits while ensuring a safe, encouraging, and well-supervised environment. As a representative of the organization, the Lifestyle and Fitness Coordinator is expected to demonstrate professionalism at all times and contribute to an exceptional resident experience.
Full Time: Monday - Friday,varying hours, occasional weekends required
Pay: $18.00-$24.00 per hour, depending on experience
Work Duties
Interview and assess residents' physical abilities to determine appropriate, personalized fitness plans.
Collect data on participating residents and document fitness progress and outcomes.
Develop individualized exercise plans with resident input, supporting daily functioning and overall well-being.
Educate and motivate residents on self-awareness, physical self-management, and wellness goals.
Teach and lead fitness, strength, balance, and aqua (if applicable) classes addressing physical, mental, and social well-being.
- Plan, prepare, lead, and participate in a variety of activity programs, including entertainment, cooking, educational offerings, arts and crafts, games, sports, and outings; ensure all regulatory activity requirements are met.
Provide guidance to Activity Assistants and volunteers, including instructing, assigning tasks, maintaining standards, and assisting in recruitment, training, management, and supervision of volunteer programs.
Plan the community's monthly activity calendar; schedule, promote, lead, and instruct activities; encourage resident participation; and coordinate in-room programs for residents who are bedfast or who prefer not to attend group events.
Complete quality assurance audits related to activity documentation, as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as required.
To be successful in the role, you would have:
Associate degree in recreation, health education, or related field; coursework in social work, gerontology, psychology, or recreation therapy preferred.
Coursework in fitness, kinesiology, exercise science, gerontology, or recreation therapy.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
One to two years of experience, preferably in a geriatric setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two or more years of direct programming experience with older adults.
Certifications from ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA, or other relevant organizations preferred but not required.
CPR and First Aid certification required for team members functioning as first responders.
State certification for Activities Leader (minimum 36 hours) required for those working in Skilled Nursing; preferred for others.
