Hand Works Therapy is a leading outpatient rehabilitation clinic specializing in adult orthopedic and upper extremity rehabilitation, with a strong focus on hand and wrist therapy. Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) to join our growing team. The CHT will evaluate and treat patients with a wide variety of upper extremity conditions, including post-surgical, traumatic, and repetitive strain injuries. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical reasoning, excellent manual therapy skills, and a passion for helping patients regain functional independence.
Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients with upper extremity and hand conditions.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient goals and physician protocols.
Fabricate and fit custom orthoses/splints as clinically indicated.
Provide patient and caregiver education on injury prevention, joint protection, and home exercise programs.
Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
Maintain detailed and timely documentation in accordance with clinic and insurance requirements.
Participate in continuing education and professional development to maintain certification and clinical excellence.
Qualifications
Licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) or Physical Therapist (PT) in the state of Florida.
Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential required (or CHT-eligible within 6 months of hire).
Minimum of 1 years of clinical experience in upper extremity rehabilitation preferred.
Proficiency in splint/orthosis fabrication and post-operative protocols.
Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.

Requirements
Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) – Job Requirements
1. Education
Must hold a degree in Occupational Therapy (OT) or Physical Therapy (PT) from an accredited program.
Completion of state licensure as an OTR/L (Occupational Therapist, Registered/Licensed) or PT (Physical Therapist).
2. Certification
Must have at least 3 years of clinical experience as an OT or PT.
A minimum of 4,000 hours of direct hand and upper extremity therapy practice is required.
Must pass the Hand Therapy Certification Examination (HTCC) to obtain and maintain CHT credentials.
Ongoing continuing education is required to maintain certification (typically every 5 years).
3. Knowledge & Skills
Strong understanding of upper extremity anatomy, kinesiology, and pathology.
Skilled in custom splint/orthosis fabrication.
Ability to assess and treat post-surgical, traumatic, and chronic conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder.
Knowledge of modalities, exercise prescription, wound care, edema management, and scar mobilization.
Excellent manual therapy, patient education, and documentation skills.
Proficiency with EMRs (Electronic Medical Records) and billing procedures.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
4. Typical Job Responsibilities
Evaluate and develop individualized treatment plans for patients with upper extremity conditions.
Fabricate and fit custom orthoses/splints.
Implement therapeutic interventions to restore function and mobility.
Communicate progress and treatment plans with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
Document all patient interactions in compliance with clinic and insurance standards.
Participate in patient education and injury prevention.
Maintain professional certification and stay updated on current best practices.
5. Preferred Qualifications (Optional but Advantageous)
Experience in outpatient orthopedic or hand therapy settings.
Familiarity with work hardening, ergonomics, or industrial rehab.
Membership in ASHT (American Society of Hand Therapists).
