Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Recreation Division location at 4600 E 63rd
St., Kansas City, MO 64130 Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manages and coordinates daily operations of municipal outdoor athletic facilities including athletic fields, diamonds, multipurpose fields, outdoor courts, and sports complexes.
Oversees scheduling, permitting, and allocation of fields and facilities for leagues, tournaments, practices, camps, and special events.
Collaborates with maintenance and grounds staff to ensure proper field preparation, turf management, lighting, irrigation systems, cleanliness, and safety compliance.
Develops, coordinates, and implements comprehensive youth and adult athletic leagues, tournaments, camps, clinics, and special sporting events based on identified community needs.
Provides oversight and coordination of select indoor recreation programming and facility operations as assigned, ensuring alignment with departmental goals, efficient use of resources, and consistency with outdoor athletics programming and service delivery.
Plans, assigns, supervises, coordinates, and evaluates the work of recreation personnel, league coordinators, athletic supervisors, and seasonal staff.
Participates in the selection, training, placement, promotion, safety oversight, appraisal, and discipline of assigned personnel.
Develops and distributes staff schedules to support league play, tournaments, and large-scale athletic events.
Prepares and monitors annual operating budgets for outdoor athletics operations.
Establishes and monitors cost recovery goals in alignment with departmental policy.
Maintains participation statistics and facility usage data to support long-range planning and capital improvement recommendations.
Prepares revenue and expenditure reports; establishes fees and charges to meet revenue targets while ensuring equitable access.
Oversees contractual agreements with athletic associations, vendors, tournament operators, and partner organizations; ensures compliance with legal and departmental requirements.
Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure consistent operations, customer service, and equitable access to outdoor athletic facilities.
Conducts and coordinates periodic safety inspections of fields, athletic equipment, bleachers, scoreboards, lighting systems, and related infrastructure.
Serves as liaison to athletic associations, community groups, governing bodies, and regional sports organizations.
Assists with long-range planning for capital improvements, field renovations, and athletic complex development.
Provides public communication, presentations, and executive summaries regarding outdoor athletics initiatives.
Performs related duties as required.
Requirements
REQUIRES bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration,
Physical Education, Exercise Sports Science, Sports Management, Fine Arts, or Wildlife Education and three (3)
years of experience overseeing or coordinating community recreational programs and/or facilities; OR High school
graduation and seven (7) years of experience in recreation management, community programming, sports
management, wildlife management, art programming, or therapeutic recreation including three (3) years of
managing/overseeing recreational programs. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen as prescribed by the City.
