RECREATION DIRECTOR (OUTDOOR RECREATION)

Full-time position available with the Parks & Recreation Department, Recreation Division, located at 4600 E 63rd
Street. Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Handles outdoor recreation planning and execution of camp activities, outdoor adventure programs, and summer recreational experiences for all ages and abilities.
Ensures the effectiveness of recreation programs by assessing participation, gathering feedback, and making necessary improvements.
Recruits, trains, supervises, and assigns duties to staff and volunteers, providing input for performance evaluations.
Develops and implements policies, procedures, and training programs to enhance staff performance and program delivery.
Directs staff in conducting and monitors recreational program activities, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and best practices.
Serves as a liaison and resource for community agencies and organizations, conducts outreach to promote
recreation programs and stimulates interest in the Outdoor Adventure Camp and other department
offerings.
Acts as a representative of the recreation department to participants, guardians, vendors, and Community
members, ensuring optimal customer service.
Oversees logistics for the camp, including facility maintenance, program setup, and teardown of tables,
chairs, equipment, and supplies.
Manages custodial, event, class, and program field logistics, ensuring facilities remain safe, clean, and
ready for scheduled activities.
Monitors and inspects recreational facilities, supplies, and equipment for safety and security, addressing
maintenance needs as necessary.
Assists in program budget development and management, tracking expenditures and ensuring proper
financial documentation.
Oversees fee collection, accounting activities, and financial record-keeping, ensuring compliance with City
policies.
Maintains accurate records, prepares reports, and manages administrative tasks such as scheduling
meetings and monitors inventory.
Assists with department-led special events and seasonal activities as needed.
Responds to participant and guardian inquiries, resolving concerns and ensuring program satisfaction.
Works collaboratively with internal and external partners to enhance program offerings.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Public Administration, Business
Administration, Physical Education, Exercise Sports Science, Sports Management, Fine Arts, or Wildlife Education;
OR high school graduation and 4 years of experience in recreation management, community programming, sports
management, arts programming, or therapeutic recreation. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen as prescribed by
the City. May be required to possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO
policies.
