POSITION SUMMARY
Olivet Nazarene University is seeking a full-time candidate to teach in the Department of Exercise and Sports Science. The individual will teach courses primarily in the Physical Education and Health Teaching major and supervise student teachers. The individual will be program director for the physical education program within the Department of Exercise & Sport Science located in School of Professional Studies. The Physical Education Program Director also works closely with the School of Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
In addition to teaching in the classroom, this individual will be expected to actively participate as a member of the Department of Exercise and Sports Science, School of Professional Studies, School of Education, and the ONU general faculty. This includes but is not limited to attending department, School, faculty, and committee meetings as well as other academic related events while providing leadership for the physical education major or representing the EXSS Department, School or Olivet. This individual will be expected to advise and mentor students academically, advise teacher candidates in the licensure process (which includes the edTPA assessment), advise and evaluate teacher candidate level two and level three portfolios, and complete reports for accreditation as required by the School of Education. This individual will also be responsible for assessment creation and collection within the physical education major. The faculty member will also be eligible to serve on faculty committees as per the faculty handbook.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. The individual must articulate clearly his or her agreement to the ONU Statement of Mission, Faith, and Lifestyle Covenant and demonstrate missional and institutional fit.
2. Previous higher education teaching experience is preferred.
3. Previous K-12 Physical Education and Health experience is preferred.
4. Commitment to excellence in teaching
5. Ability to integrate faith and learning
6. Display a strong attention to scholarship and service to the discipline.
7. Display a knowledge and understanding of current PE and Health trends within the school systems.
EDUCATION
A Master’s degree in Physical Education or related degree is required, while a terminal degree in Physical Education or related degree is preferred. Candidate needs to be willing to pursue a doctorate in physical education or related field if not presently in evidence. Candidate should hold a K-12 physical education and health teaching license.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
9-month contract, August-May, at Olivet’s main campus. Salary commensurate with experience. The Department of Exercise and Sports Science currently houses four academic majors, including Kinesiology, Physical Education and Health Teaching, Sport Management, and Recreation/Sport Sciences. There are approximately 200 students currently studying in the Department.
