Garrett College
Company Overview
Garrett College is a public, two-year, associate's degree granting institution of the State of Maryland.
Overlooking Deep Creek Lake and Wisp ski area in the Allegheny Mountains of Western Maryland, Garrett's 62-acre campus is surrounded by the forests, lakes, farms, and whitewater rivers that are the outdoor classrooms of its Adventure Sports and Natural Resources and Wildlife Technology students.
Garrett College's Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex (CARC) is currently under construction. The complex will be completed in two phases.
Phase I includes an aquatic facility with a fitness area, competition pool, recreation pool, classroom area and a physical and occupational therapy area. This phase is expected to be completed in the Fall of 2011.
Phase II is a gymnasium containing three collegiate basketball courts, bleacher seating for 1600 people, a small concession area and offices to house our athletic staff. This phase of the project is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2012.
Tentative programming for the aquatics portion of the completed complex is to include swim teams, learn-to-swim programs, arthritis programs, scuba, kayak and canoe programs, intramural sports and open/lap swimming. Tentative gymnasium programming is to include GC Athletics, community functions such as graduations and concerts, and community sports leagues.
Garrett offers transfer programs leading to Associate in Arts (A.A.) degrees in Arts and Sciences, Teacher Education, General Studies, and Business and Information Technology. Career advancement programs leading to the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree are offered in Adventure Sports, Business and Information Technology, Juvenile Justice, and Natural Resources and Wildlife Technology. Garrett also offers an Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.) degree and a variety of one-year certificate programs in specific career areas.
Company History
Garrett College opened its doors in September 1971. Garrett College has acquired a national reputation for its Adventure Sports program, the first of its kind in the United States, and a regional reputation for its Natural Resources and Wildlife Technology program. the College also offers Maryland's only degree program in Juvenile Justice.
Garrett College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
Garrett College is approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission, 839 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. The College is a member of the American Association of Community Colleges, the Association of Faculty for Advancement of Community College Teaching, the Maryland JUCO Conference, Region XX, Western Pennsylvania Conference, and the National Junior College Athletic Association.
