Position Description:
THE POSITION
The Department of Health and Sport Sciences in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Louisville is seeking candidates for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor or Lecturer in its Exercise Physiology program with a focus on statistics and sport science. This position is a non-tenure-track, 10-month renewable appointment. The start date for this position is August 1, 2026. Preferred candidates will hold an advanced degree in statistics, sport analytics, sport science, or a closely related field, and demonstrate a strong record of teaching at the university level. Experience teaching applied statistics, data analysis, and sport analytics within sport science or human performance contexts is especially valued. We seek to strengthen the department with professionals who will make a significant scholarly impact on our students, advance the program through service, enhance the college's urban mission, and expand our partnerships within the College, the University, and the community.

The mission of the Department of Health and Sport Sciences is centered on the development and preparation of individuals to be future leaders in a variety of metropolitan settings including higher education, allied health services, public and private corporations, and governmental agencies. The Department prepares and trains professionals in exercise physiology, human performance, health education, physical education, sport administration, and youth sports. The Department fulfills its mission by providing students with research-driven, student-focused, real-world experiences in a state-of-the-art setting with laboratory and academic spaces. We provide academic instruction at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels in addition to conducting theoretical and applied research. The Department also serves the University and metropolitan community through a variety of service classes fostering healthy and active lifestyles and by contributing professional consulting and service-learning opportunities to a diverse student body and community. The Department serves over 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students and includes 30 full-time faculty members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clinical (non-tenure) faculty are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics, sport analytics, and/or sport science, depending on program needs.
- A strong emphasis is placed on delivering a student-centered learning experience that integrates statistical theory, data analysis, and applied sport science with real-world practice in a modern academic setting.
- Faculty are expected to support and maintain a curriculum aligned with relevant accrediting standards, including those of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the National Strength and Conditioning Association, where applicable.
In addition to teaching, responsibilities include service to the program, department, and college. These may involve advising and mentoring students, contributing to undergraduate and graduate program leadership, supporting experiential learning opportunities such as internships or applied analytics projects, collaborating with community and industry partners, and participating in ongoing program development. Appointments are typically for 10 months, with the possibility of additional summer teaching and/or research opportunities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION (required)
- Master's degree in Statistics, Sports Analytics, Sport Science, or field related to the position
- Successful teaching experience in at least one of the following content areas: statistics, sport science/sport analytics, athlete monitoring and data management
- Experience with statistical software and data analysis tools relevant to sport science (e.g., R, Python, SPSS, or similar).
- Demonstrates ability to work well and ethically with colleagues
- Demonstrates interest in working in partnership with the university and communities in diverse settings
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Relevant human performance certifications including the CSCS, CPSS, CSCC, USAW Level 1, FMS Level 1, etc.
- Experience working with accrediting bodies such as CAAHEP and NSCA's Education Recognition Program
- Diverse practical (hands-on) experience working in human performance with various athletic entities and sports teams
- Experience working with novel technology in human performance and athlete monitoring
- Evidence of knowledge or experience in incorporating technology into instructional practices
- Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices
SALARY: Competitive, based upon qualifications and experience
APPOINTMENT: 10-month with the possibility of summer teaching
