Recreation Specialist

• 2nd Shift: 3:00 p.m. 12:00 a.m.
• Weekends required
• Must possess an active driver's license
We are seeking an energetic, youthfocused Recreation Specialist to support the development, supervision, and engagement of students through a variety of recreational, creative arts, athletic, and enrichment programs. This role contributes directly to student wellbeing, positive campus culture, and meaningful participation in structured activities at Dayton Job Corps.
This position is wellsuited for individuals with experience in:
• Recreation program planning or activity coordination
• Youth services, mentoring, coaching, or supervision
• Arts, music, performance, or specialty recreation instruction
• Sports, wellness, or fitness programming
• Event coordination or club leadership
• Working in residential, educational, or community-based youth environments
You will work closely with Recreation, Residential, Wellness, and other center departments to deliver engaging activities, model employability skills, ensure safety, and create a positive environment for young adults ages 1624.
This is an onsite, studentfacing role requiring strong communication, organization, creativity, and the ability to motivate and guide diverse learners.
What You'll DoRecreation Programming & Student Engagement
• Assist the Recreation Supervisor in planning and implementing a comprehensive recreation program with diverse activities.
• Organize and supervise student participation in recreation, arts, sports, and social events.
• Conduct recreation classes and specialty activities such as drama, dance, music, and club programs.
• Assist with creative arts programming and contribute new ideas for student engagement.
• Coordinate new student recreation orientation and RAP programs.
• Support wellness initiatives, including weightimprovement programs in partnership with the Wellness Manager.
Student Supervision & Campus Culture
• Chaperone students during offcenter recreation activities.
• Model and reinforce employability skills and positive behavior aligned with Career Success Standards (CSS).
• Support the center's positive normative culture through mentorship and consistent behavioral guidance.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed in all recreation environments, including waterbased activities.
Operations, Safety & Compliance
• Maintain responsibility for assigned center property and equipment.
• Report violations of ethical behavior and support a culture of accountability.
• Identify and report environmental, health, and safety concerns.
• Recommend improvements to recreation programming and opportunities to reduce waste.
• High school diploma or GED
• Two years of experience in recreation, physical education, or working with youth
• Current CPR, First Aid, and water safety certifications
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to model CSS-aligned behavior and mentor students effectively
• Computer proficiency
Minimum Eligibility
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
• I9 documentation verifying eligibility to work in the United States
• Ability to pass preemployment drug test and background check
